Pounds off in Photoshop

I was showing my before pics to a close friend the other day. He sent it back via email retouched in Photoshop. I don’t know how he did it, but I was amazed. He said he took 15 minutes. Said I needed an image to shoot for.

He erased 70 pounds of fat and added 20 pounds of muscle in 15 minutes. Unfortunately, most of use go through that in 7 seconds in our minds when we imagine ourselves superimposed on successful “before and after” pictures published in the world around us. At least that is my struggle. How to be patient when you can already see the results in your minds eye.

I’m doing fair in my quest so far. But this photo is a few years off.

P.S. My photo retouching friend tells me this happens all the time in magazines about fitness, ie. retouching, highlighting, pinching, colorizing, etc. Every image has been retouched to some degree. We are saturated with impossible ideals in the visual media.

“What about video?” I asked. “They can’t retouch frame by frame.”

“On no”, he replied. “They literally paint away the flaws with body make-up and mask it all with various filters, lighting kits, skin tape, etc.”

Funny.
