Before and After Addiction in Media Weight-loss Coverage

buttcelebrityAs a society we like to see people get slim. As a society we also like to see people get fat. As a society was also like to see people get too slim. But society doesn’t like to look at too fat. Like 500 pounds fat.

Check out every third issue of People Magazine. Right there on the cover is Mr/Ms. Before and After picture. Online you click to see the after picture when they show you the “before” in the story lead…and you don’t get the after until you wade through a weight-loss site.

Gotcha! Jane Q. Public has clicked on an “after” picture link and we’ve got her in our sights. You wanted to see an after picture? Not until you get all insecure about your own fat self via our subconsciously insinuative ad copy.

I forgot the tabloids. They are constantly taking beach pictures of a random celebrity who has begun to harvest a crop of cellulite on the back of a thigh. A whole career of “before” sveltness goes up in smoke with an “after” shot, taken through a hubble-like Canon lens from a helicopter miles away, which screams, “LOOK WHO”S FAT” on next weeks Tabloid rag.

Losing weight? We’ll put you on the cover. Gaining weight, We’ll put you on the cover and make fun of you. Who are the drivers behind this madness. Subscribers? Writers? Ad Sales People? All of the above.

Look at me. I’m doing it too. We all like transformation and redemption. I’ll spare you the close-up of my cellulite though. Inquiring minds do not get to know…see this

Before and After Number Phobias.

measuringdevicesunknown

For almost 18 months now, I have been able to not weigh, measure, or pinch my fatness.

I have become a rabid measurerer of the things I can control. I do 2 miles of walking per day. Have my portions sizes constrained by my hand size and I reach for 5 meals per day. EODF is a one-week-on two-weeks-off type of thing.

I dread seeing the scales. My pants are looser, I’ve had people notice I’m thinner too. But I am adamate about not knowing what my BMI or my waist circumfrence, or my body fat percentage actually is.

I’ll probably note these numbers when I’m out of the phobia range.

I’m thinking I’ll get down to my “healthy” weight, and then enjoy a discovery bash with close friends as I weigh-in to see what weight and circumfrance and body fat percentage I happen to be when I feel like I’ve arrived at my desired health level, rather than the other way around.

It has always baffled me that we start a diet by saying EXACTLY how much we SHOULD weigh, when in actuality, given the body’s aging processes and hormone fluxuations, we have no idea. Best to feel great and then find out what numbers that happens to be, than to force fit ourselves into numbers picked out of a hat.

Cash Flow; Before and After Weight Loss Connected to Recession Pounds!

workingmomI recently had a rapid weight loss over a period of two weeks. It came in unison with my wife going back to work. Our income has almost doubled and I feel as though I am physically more in control. I don’t eat emotionally as much as I used to. Could this be a pyscho-somatic weight-gain problem? Are weight and cash flow connected in some mysterious way? These people seem to suggest it is.

I guess the recession pounds are leaving me. We’ve been in a micro-recession for about 4 years. This coincides to with my worst weight gain. (300+lbs)

Symmetry and Weight Misdirection – Before and After Weight-loss

bighairhatWhen you are a pair shape, use your hair or a big hat as a wonderful optical illusion to employ until the weight is off. And it will enhance the effect when you’ve lost the weight. You’ll really look different. Then you can shave your head.

Before and After Pictures on the Same Day

Before? Pasty White, Relaxed, Flabby.

After! (later the same day) Tanned (sprayed On), Oiled, Shaved (first time) and Flexing.

When I first did these photos, I had no idea they would be the biggest link getters in unknowndieter’s blog history. Turn’s out before and after is a big deal.

I’ve lost some weight so it might be time to do it again.

Before and After Medical Opinions on Healthy Eating

eggsunknownThe largest study ever on healthy eating is over and the results are counter-intuitive. You have to read it to believe it.

I didn’t at first, but now I think that medical orthodoxy, at least on the heart disease and degenerative disease front, is more like big tobacco than ever.

My new favorite breakfast is pictured here.

I pour diced or stewed tomatoes into a pan, bring to a slow boil, then throw in three or four eggs. They are poached by the simmering tomatoes. I then toss in two or three cloves of fresh garlic.

I’ve had this breakfast every day this week. I find it can get addictive. Which is good, given this about tomatoes.

Body for Life by Photoshop – Before and After Smudging for Weight Loss

painterlybody.jpg

So many of us paint by the numbers when designing our weight-loss program. Numbers, measurements, circumference, percentages. How about painting with the right side of the brain. Intuition, impressions, emotions, and wholeness. Here’s sketchy version of my ideal. Finger painting my way to success while I wait for the real thing.

Where am I going with this? I don’t know. But my new playtoy, Photoshop’s smudge tool, let’s me imagine what might be. And pushing pixels is sometimes easier than push-ups. But you benefit from my avoidance. Right?

Thinking About Weight-loss Triggers in a New Light

Sometimes when we change the way we look at things, it can make a big difference.

Here are two of my fat inducing weaknesses re-visualized for avoidance.

Reverse Anorexia R Us

reverseanorexicAnorexia is a serious illness. We see it’s sufferers sporting rib-cage bumps and missing derrieres at the beach and say, “how can they not see how unhealthy that looks?”.

I suffer from an exact opposite, but equally dangerous desease; I have reverse anorexia.

I look in the mirror and see a young svelt guy, when indeed I’m around 300 pounds. One may argue this is a unique male centered desease. I’m not sure. Haven’t seen any studies on this. But it is real for me.

One trick I caught myself doing the other morning, when oogling my thinness in the mirror…I tip my head down. The eye-level mirror image of a fat person looks better when the head is tilted slightly towards the mirror. This hides the double chin, and emphasizes the forehead.

When I tip my head back the double chin reappears and I then have some evidence that I’m fat. Other than that, I simply don’t see a fat guy in the mirror. Big…yes. Large boned….yes. But obese or morbidly obese. No!!

I’m serious. I see myself as much thinner than I really am. Whence this form of self delusion?

Am I the only person who suffers from this?

Losing Atkins-like Weight without cutting Carbs. The Slow-Carb Diet.

fhwwFinally, a diet that works. I’ve been on this for two weeks and I’m happy. It is non-measuring, filling, and nutritious. I can also see myself staying on it for life. It may seem boring for most people but it gives me the anchor I’ve been looking for. It also incorporates the “day off” I need.

I’ve found that while on a caloricly restrictive diet, EODF in my case, my eating abilities can meet the deficit created by fasting. It was seeming like binge-purge. With this plan, I’m getting a filling healthy blitz on my eating phases.

Thanks to Tim.
